A Cat Has Finally Found His Home After 17 Years Waiting

The one who adopts Homer should be prepared to take care of such a special animal like Homer and could provide him a special home. Craig and his wife are exactly that kinds of people. And this is where the story begins; a cat has finally found his home after 17 years!

When Craig Bickler expressed that he wanted to adopt a kitten, no one thought Homer would be that cat. Homer had been living at the Sanctuary for years, and that's the only home he'd ever known.

Homer - The Ginger Cat

Homer was just a kitten when he and his sister were rescued from a dumpster in 1999. Soft silver fur surrounded the most soulful eyes that almost made you forget the sticky matted hair surrounding them.

His sister had been adopted soon after, but Homer's aloof nature meant it would take longer for him to find a forever home. It was as if Homer was saying in his heart, "I want you to stay away."

But the staff working at the Sanctuary weren't deceived by his attitude; they were determined to win him over and gain his trust, a relationship that turned them into close friends.

The Shy Kitten With His Troublesome Habit

Though he wasn't known for getting along well with strangers, many would-be pet owners found Homer to be a loveable character. They liked his grouchy look and wanted to get an acquaintance started. But there's one real challenge on the way to adopting him.

Homer was notorious for urinating inappropriately indoors, which could have easily put off potential adopters. Although Homer's caregiver tried their best to help with the issue, he was advised that if it persisted in a new home, putting him up for adoption may not be possible.

A Safe Place For Dozens Of Stray Cats

Craig and his wife Edwina are animal lovers fond of feline friends with orange coats. They also adore shy cats, which makes them ideal cat raisers.

Their property near the California coast is large and like an animal paradise where dozens of their felines can spend time outdoors when they aren't resting indoors.

Once again, the ginger cat will make several new friends and eat fresh homemade meals made by his new mom.

Moreover, Homer won't experience any problems concerning his troublesome habit thanks to them installing walls inside their house that are easy to wipe off and clean if need be.

A Cat Has Finally Found His Home

After spending a month exploring the new house, Homer finally settled with his owners. There were a few days of adjustment for Homer. And Craig says the cat was initially apprehensive about such a major change. But now he's learned how to adapt to his new circumstances.

After 17 years of waiting, Homer finally goes home with his new family. Mike - a caregiver at the Sanctuary, said that they had tried to wait and find the right people for him, but then his age started making it seem not easy.

But now they're all happy that Homer no longer has to stay at the shelter and will receive all the love and attention he deserves. They decided to send Homer to California with Craig right before Xmas.

Bottom Lines

With thousands of cats entering shelters every year, we must do everything in our power to help these animals find loving houses.

Through this story about Homer - a cat has finally found his home; we are inspired by the idea that every pet deserves to have its new forever home and that we have the power to make it happen.
